Finding Sweetness

Today, I made some nectar and put out my hummingbird feeder. Every year, my little families return and nest in my dear old trees. My garden is made up of plants that flower in each season, and they are purposefully chosen for the bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and any other little creatures that need the blooms. Being outside is one of my favorite things because I get so much joy and healing from the wonder of interacting with these amazing lives. Even as I go about my day inside, the windows are open, and I keep smiling at hearing the birdcalls and the breeze whooshing.

As a powerful storm moves in, I wanted to celebrate the return of the hummingbirds and hope they get a drink before having to find shelter. So, I crafted these adorable earrings, and I love the way they came out. It seems so fitting that these tiny little birds represent learning how to use our energy wisely and finding joy and sweetness in life despite the challenges. It takes so much energy for a hummingbird to survive. It makes me look on in wonder. How do they do it? But perhaps I should ask the same question of myself. It takes an enormous amount of energy for me to survive, and if I go out, I usually mask in order to look normal, and I can't begin to describe how much that costs me. Perhaps, like the hummingbird, I look for bright spots in life that will help me recharge my energy. I can tell you, one person who expresses kindness in a day full of expending energy is just like that brightly colored feeder I just put out. They are a little oasis that grants me just enough strength to make it a little further. Thank you to anyone who chooses kindness!
